About Porter One

The name “Porter One”  is a nod to a legend surrounding the world-renowned concierge services of Claridge’s Hotel in London. The saying goes that “being given a room key at Claridge’s is like being given the keys to London.” To provide such impeccable service for many decades, their elite team of Porters relied on the scribbled notes found within the pages of a weathered leather book dubbed, “The Book of Keys.”

Marked only with a single golden key embossed on its cover, The Book of Keys contained the names, contact and pertinent information of every person in charge of any door one might need to open in London. Within its worn pages were the purveyors of the finest goods and services throughout the city, every Michelin-starred restaurant Maitre’D, every West End Box Office Manager, every prêt-à-porter Grand Dame and Saville Road Tailor ...hundreds of gatekeepers to all the luxurious delights, both sweet and savory, that London had to offer.

This handwritten, heavily detailed and annotated bible has been a part of the Claridge’s lore since its establishment in 1853  and its contents protected as if they were the crown jewels. Only the Head Porter (internally referred to as "Porter No.1”) has direct access to the Book of Keys and each query must go through them. Each Porter No.1  has earned the distinction through a life in service to the guests of Claridge’s. Authority and charge of the Book of Keys is considered the highest honor, and the prized manuscript stays in Porter No. 1’s safekeeping for as long as they hold the post.

With the mythology of the Book of Keys as our inspiration, we invite you to consider Porter One as your own, elite, in-house concierge team.
